24/9/2023 0 Comments When you hit the wallOn the third day's walk with Phil Bond I hit the wall. I knew that I wasn't in the best hill walking condition because I had wrenched both knees, especially the left, during a hard breast stroke session at the start of November. The knees became swollen and felt wierd like the tendons were over stretched. January I was cycling but not much more. This was March and we had already had two good days walking. Day 1 The Coniston cirque which was about 5 hours. Day 2 I can't recall lol but similar. A hike with a little scrambling. Day 3 I felt fine, until we started. Phil really wanted to do the Kentmere cirque which we estimated was a full day hill walk, maybe 8 hours. We hadn't walked an hour before my body was empty. I was slow. My mind was a little bit grumbly. I wasn't smiling. We only got as far as Ill Bell. 3 hours and I decided today wasn't my day. We had had two good strong days and a third my body was out of condition for. I hit the wall. I was flat. However, I got some amazing photographs as teh cloud moved quickly amongst the tops. I will try and find them and add to this post. The walk downhill was a blessing. I started smiling again. We drove to Staveley and had one of the best pint's I've ever had. See our faces. Surrounded by people. Very contented and maybe worth it. Kind of
